Learning to drive is one of the biggest milestones in your life — and choosing the right instructor can make all the difference. We encourage you to read the reviews on facebook and google for Aberdrive School of Motoring and you will see why we are highly recommended by our previous pupils.
We don’t just teach you how to pass your test… we teach you how to drive confidently for life.
What sets Aberdrive apart is our client-centred approach. Every lesson is tailored to you — your pace, your experience, and your goals. Whether you’re a complete beginner or close to test standard, we adapt the lesson so you always feel challenged, supported, and in control of your progress.
We focus on real understanding, not just routines. Instead of memorising actions, you’ll learn why you’re doing things — helping you make safe, independent decisions on the road long after you’ve passed.
At Aberdrive, we also create a calm, positive learning environment. No pressure, no judgement — just clear coaching, encouragement, and honest feedback so you always know how you’re doing and what to work on next.
We’re proud to have a consistently extremely high first-time pass rate, but we never teach just to the minimum standard needed to pass a test. Our lessons are delivered to a much higher standard, ensuring you become a safe, confident driver for life, not just someone who can get through a driving test.
Most importantly, we’re invested in your success. We don’t just aim for a test pass — we aim to help you become a safe, confident, and capable driver for life.
If you want driving lessons that are personalised, supportive, and genuinely effective, Aberdrive is the right choice for you.

For many young people, learning to drive in an automatic car is simply the smarter, more modern choice.
Automatic cars are easier to learn in, as there’s no clutch or gear changes to worry about. This means you can focus fully on what really matters — awareness, decision-making, and staying safe on the road. As a result, most learners progress faster and with less stress.
They’re also ideal for building confidence early on. Without the added pressure of stalling, hill starts, or juggling gears in busy traffic, learners tend to feel more relaxed and in control from the very beginning.
With the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles, which are all automatic, learning this way prepares you for the future of driving. The UK government has confirmed that the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be phased out from 2030, with all new cars required to be zero-emission by 2035 (). This means automatic vehicles will soon become the standard, not the exception.
While a manual licence allows you to drive both manual and automatic cars, the reality is that many young drivers will only ever drive automatics — especially as the industry moves rapidly toward electric vehicles.
Ultimately, learning in an automatic allows you to become a safe, confident driver more quickly, while also preparing you for the future of driving — not the past.

IWhen choosing a good automatic driving instructor in Aberdeen, look for someone who is patient, reliable and able to adapt their teaching style to suit you. Your instructor should be DVSA approved, make you feel comfortable behind the wheel and give you clear feedback on your progress.
It is also worth choosing an instructor with good knowledge of Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Learning on a variety of local roads, busy junctions, roundabouts and different traffic conditions can help you develop the confidence and skills needed for independent driving.
Before booking automatic driving lessons, consider:
DVSA approval – anyone charging for driving lessons must be a qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or licensed trainee instructor. (I am approved by DVSA as a fully qualified instructor!)
Experience teaching automatic learners – automatic cars are simpler to operate, but good observation, planning, judgement and road positioning still need to be taught properly. (Aberdrive are!)
A calm, supportive approach – you should feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes without being put under unnecessary pressure. (Yes - Aberdrive are well known for this - see google business reviews for us)
Clear progress and feedback – a good instructor should explain what you are doing well, what needs improvement and what you will work on next. (See business reviews again - Aberdrive do exactly this)
Local knowledge – an instructor familiar with Aberdeen can give you experience across the different types of roads and driving situations you are likely to encounter locally. (I have lived my entire life in Aberdeen)
Reviews and recommendations – genuine feedback from previous pupils can give you a good idea of an instructor's reliability and reasons you should learn with them. (google Aberdrive and see our reviews)

Becoming a confident driver takes time, practice and the right support. The best way to build confidence is to take regular driving lessons with a patient, supportive driving instructor who allows you to progress at a pace that suits you.
At Aberdrive School of Motoring, we help learner drivers in Aberdeen develop the skills and confidence they need to feel comfortable behind the wheel. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to driving after a break or simply feel nervous about certain situations, confidence usually improves as your experience and understanding increase.
A good way to become a more confident driver is to:
Practice regularly – consistent driving lessons help skills become familiar and reduce anxiety about unfamiliar situations.
Start gently - At Aberdrive we are skilled at putting learners at ease. Your first lesson will usually be held within a quiet car park so that you learn the basic skills to safely control a car. After this you will progress at your own pace without pressure.
Build up gradually – start with roads and situations you are comfortable with before progressing to busier junctions, roundabouts, dual carriageways and more challenging traffic conditions. Aberdrive will be with you every step of the way providing the necessary support but being ready to let you try things for yourself.
Understand rather than memorise – confident drivers understand why they are making decisions rather than simply learning routines to pass the driving test.
Learn from mistakes – mistakes are a normal part of learning to drive. We will help you understand what happened and how to deal with the situation differently next time.
Drive in different conditions – gaining experience on different types of roads and in varying traffic and weather conditions can help you become a more adaptable driver.
Ask questions – if there is something you do not understand or a particular aspect of driving makes you nervous, discuss it with us and we can spend more time practicing it until you feel more confident.
